The Judiciary Act of 1789 set up the 13 original offices, today there are 94 offices of the U.S Marshals. Each U.S Marshal in nominated by the President and approved by Congress before they hold office. The U.S Marshals serve as officers of the federal courts and are responsible for making sure the federal courts run free and fairly. U.S Marshals are also responsible for the security of the federal courts and federal employees that work in the courts system. Marshals keep order in the courtrooms and carry out court orders.
The marshal service also responds to emergency situations. Such situations are civil disturbances that break federal law, and threaten federal property. The Marshal Service also responds to natural disasters and enforces voting right laws. The Untied States constitution established three branches of federal government. These branches are Legislative, Executive and Judicial. The U.S Marshal Service is under the Executive branch.
The U.S Marshal Service provides security of government witnesses. Witness’s lives may be in danger due to testimony in court. Witnesses get new identities when the Marshal Service protects them. Marshal Service provides 24-hours protection to all witnesses. No witness who followed security has never been harmed while under protection of the U.S Marshal.
