Con-Air
In 1995, the air fleets of the U.S Marshals Service and the Bureau of
Immigration and customs Enforcement merged to create the Justice Prisoner and
Alien Transportation system. The merger created a effective system for
transporting prisoners and criminal aliens. Aliens are not the aliens that you
are thinking of they are people that are in the U.S illegally. JPATS is one of
the largest transports of prisoners in the world. It gets about 977 requests
every day to move prisoners between judicial districts, correctional,
institutions and foreign countries.
JPATS support the federal judiciary through its scheduling and
transporting responsibilities. JPATS transports sentenced prisoners who are in
the custody of Federal Bureau of Prisons. JPATS also provides regular
international flights for the removal of deportable aliens. JPATS completes over
35,000 prisoners/aliens movement per year. JPATS has a fleet of aircraft witch
moves prisoners over why distances.
Nearly all air movements are completed by large and small jets that JPATS
own or leases. Ground transportation is usually provided by the Marshal Service,
ICE and the Bop. JPATS is the only government- operated, regularly. JPATS have
to fly everywhere and return right back home to go somewhere else. It is a lot
of work for JPATS because they do so much flying a day.
